Noise. Drone. Ambient. Electroacoustics. These terms are bandied about, often without discretion. Many don’t know what they mean. A few in Edmonton have familiarized themselves with the various acclaimed international imports of these forms of music. But even fewer realize how many world-class experimental electronic artists call Edmonton their home. This highly varied all-ages event will give listeners an opportunity not only to learn more about and enjoy live performance of some of these more esoteric forms of music, but also to appreciate the exceptional aesthetic abilities of a sampling of Edmonton’s diverse base of experimental electronic musicians. Read on for performer biographic materials and set descriptions.

Clinker is Alberta’s sound craftsman and audio-visual artist Gary James Joynes, who develops and presents ambient experiments and environments. He has presented his work in major art and music festivals in Canada and abroad including Mutek in Montreal. His live audio set at ELECTROLLS will mark the premiere of his latest piece entitled "Provody" which has been described as an "ode to life cycles, a trip into the human psyche moving through experiences where sound generates images and synaesthesia."

A mashup of jungle, hip-hop, eardrum bursting feedback and a healthy does of psychedelia, holzkopf uses broken machinery and homemade synthesizers to churn out this hellish cacophony as much influenced by beats, cuts and scratches as by total noise. "Whether you call it self-expression or just self-indulgent, there's no denying the disquieting, invigorating impact of this kind of outsider art." (The Wire)

Real Cardinal started experimenting with electronic music on PCs and Keyboard sequencers at an early age . The original goal was to attempt to emulate the textures and atmosphere heard on Pink Floyd records, but In 1997 the focus shifted to more Industrial and experimental sound. Cardinal now fronts the solo project Comaduster (formerly FXseries, and later, Daedal), which expresses an eclectic range of electronic ideas with the addition of vocals. As a solo performer on stage, Cardinal runs dark improvisational structures made up from many electronic and acoustic sources and improvises on top with an assortment of software devices.
