Part art installation, part raw live performance, ELECTROLLS II will be an audio-visual event that simultaneously showcases the extraordinary talent Edmonton has in ambient music, while also providing a uniquely international perspective on ambient art through the screening of audio-visual works. The event's carefully selected EV PA system, coupled with the acoustics of the performance room and the theatre setting will provide for an exceptional deep listening - and viewing - experience.

Edmonton, Alberta native, Mark Templeton takes various acoustic instruments, most notably guitar, accordion and banjo, and manages to retain their inherent qualities and familiarity, while obscuring their character through digital manipulation and layers of textured static and field recordings. His performance will be a live improvisation with the electric guitar, along with sampled audio. This will also mark the official Edmonton release of his full-length, Standing on a Hummingbird, released on New York City based label, Anticipate.

Clinker's performance at ELECTROLLS II will present his continuing research into
"Live Cinema" - the simultaneous creation of sound and image in real time. The
traditional parameters of narrative cinema are expanded by a much broader
conception of cinematographic space, the focus of which is no longer the
photographic construction of reality as seen by the camera’s eye, or linear
forms of narration. His latest audio work "Provody" will be further explored to
reveal new relations between sound and moving image...

Clinker is Alberta’s sound craftsman and audio-visual artist Gary James Joynes.
Gary has presented his work in major art and music festivals in Canada and
abroad including Montreal's Mutek.

Real Cardinal started experimenting with electronic music on PCs and Keyboard sequencers at an early age . The original goal was to attempt to emulate the textures and atmosphere heard on Pink Floyd records, but In 1997 the focus shifted to more Industrial and experimental sound. Cardinal now fronts the solo project Comaduster (formerly FXseries, and later, Daedal), which expresses an eclectic range of electronic ideas with the addition of vocals. As a solo performer on stage, Cardinal runs dark improvisational structures made up from many electronic and acoustic sources and improvises on top with an assortment of software devices.

Nano Uribe's connection with music has always been an emotional one. For the past few years he has been experimenting with the blending of vocal drones, melodic guitars and modular synthesis, in the attempt to create something people can connect with. With the hopes of his music being used in a documentary or a film, the ability to emote through his music is vital in his experimentation. Aural points of reference include Seaworthy, Piana, and the 12K family. In addition to performing as nannou, Nano also plays in the shoegaze band Storyboard.

John Huck, aka dj wijit, is the host of Clocks & Clouds on CJSR. He first got hooked on electronic music and started dj-ing in the mid-nineties.  Since then his mission has been to open the continuous legato of the imagination, matching sound with sound and filling space with new possibilities. For this show, however, he will be providing functional music for active repose.

Unique to Electrolls II is a glimpse into the international scene through the work of TriMIX: an Audio-Visual compilation conceived and curated by Portland artist TJ Norris. TJ asked eleven international sound artists, including such underground stars as Scanner, SETI, and Asmus Tietchens, to create electronic works that would accompany him on his photo journeys around the industrial Pacific Northwest. These sounds were then remixed and became an intrinsic part of the installations, along with three new video works by luminaries Sue Costabile, Ryan Jeffery and Edmonton's rising AV artist Gary James Joynes (aka Clinker). Electrolls II will mark the Canadian Premiere Screening of these 3 video works.
